Element(s) Not Working - Electric Range

Possible Solutions

Please see your Owner's Manual for specific information on your model; touch control models offer many different control options.  If you want to download or view product literature for your appliance, please visit our Manuals and Literature page.

Element(s) Not Glowing

  • Elements start and stop glowing when turned on because the cooktop elements cycle on and off to reach the right temperature, even while on High. This prevents the cooktop from reaching extreme temperatures that may damage the glass surface. In low settings, such as Keep Warm, the elements do not glow but will still maintain the right temperature.
  • This also applies when using the warming element, simmer, or warm zone features. The simmer control knob has two settings: Simmer and Normal. When the control is set on Normal, the element will function as a single, a dual, or a triple element. When the simmer control knob is set on Simmer, the cooking area will not glow red.
  • If the element does not cycle back on, allow the cooktop to cool down for 30 minutes and then turn the element on again.

Is the control lock on?

The Control Lock feature prevents the unintended use of the cooktop and oven. For specific information on your model, please see your owner's manual.

Is the power cord plugged in, or has a household circuit breaker(s) tripped or fuse(s) blown?

  • Plug the power cord into a grounded outlet with a dedicated circuit (240V receptacle for electric ranges).
  • Reset the circuit breaker(s) or replace the fuse(s). If the problem continues, call an electrician.

Have you reset the power?

  • Power the range down by turning off the circuit breaker(s) for one (1) minute.
  • Power range up by turning on the circuit breaker(s).
  • Verify the cooktop operates.
