Microwave is Not Starting or Operating - Countertop Microwave

Possible Solutions

Is the unit plugged directly into a wall outlet?

If your unit is plugged into an inverter or some other power source (for example, an inverter or generator), the power provided might be enough for the lights and the controls but not the heating source. Plug the unit into a wall outlet and try again.

Is the power source working correctly?

  • Verify the power cord is connected to an operational outlet. If you are not sure whether the outlet is operational, and the outlet is easily accessible, connect a known operating small appliance with a similar power cord to the outlet to verify the outlet is operational.
  • Verify the circuit breaker hasn't tripped or blown a fuse. If the problem continues, call an electrician.

Is the Control Lock set?

The Control Lock disables the control panel pads to avoid unintended use of the microwave oven.

Is the Timer in use?

Verify the Timer is not set. The Timer can be set in minutes and seconds, up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds, and counts down the set time The Timer does not start or stop the microwave oven. Touch CANCEL while the Timer is active in the display (the time icon is flashing) to cancel the Timer.

Is the door fully closed?

Remove all packing material from the Microwave. Be sure no packing material is blocking the door lock system.

Place the microwave oven on a flat and level counter, table, shelf, or cart, that will not block the opening or closing of the microwave oven door. Close the door firmly. On some models, if a packaging spacer is attached to the inside of the door, remove it, then firmly close the door.

If a message about the door appears in the display, the door has been closed for 5 minutes or more without the microwave oven being started. This occurs to avoid the unintended starting of the microwave oven. Open and close the door, then start the cycle.

NOTE: To avoid unintentional operation of the microwave oven, a cooking function cannot be started if the microwave oven door has been closed for about 5 minutes. The word “door” will appear in the display until the door is opened and closed.

Is the Magnetron functioning properly?

Try to heat 1 cup (250 mL) of cold water for 2 minutes at 100% cooking power. If the water does not heat, try to see if the door is fully closed and/or Stop/Unlock is OFF. If the microwave oven still does not operate, call for service.

Is Stop/Unlock ON or OFF?

Make sure Stop/Unlock is OFF. Make sure Demo mode (on some models) is OFF.
